John R. Trimble

John R. Trimble is a professor emeritus in the Department of English at the University of Texas at Austin. He received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Princeton University in 1962 and a PhD in English from the University of California Berkeley in 1971. In 1975, four years after finishing graduate school, Trimble published Writing with Style: Conservation in the Art of Writing.

Trimble worked as a professor at the University of Texas at Austin for 36 years, from 1970 until his retirement in 2006. During his career as a professor, Trimble specialized in expository writing, rhetoric, pedagogy, short story writing, and American drama. As a teacher, Trimble was dedicated to teaching, earning him the title of University Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus.
